Daniel Shadbolt

Daniel Shadbolt (b. 1980) studied painting in London at the Chelsea College of Art and Design and the Royal Drawing School.

Shadbolt paints primarily from observation with a sensitivity for expressive handling of paint. Five years of studying the work of Cézanne and the role of colour relationships have influenced his style.

He has exhibited widely, including the Mall Galleries, BP Portrait Award and Ruth Borchard Collection, which purchased his self-portrait for their permanent collection.

In 2015, Shadbolt was elected a New English Art Club member. Shadbolt teaches at the Heatherley School of Fine Art and is a published art writer. He lives and works in West London.

I never know exactly what to expect when I set out to paint. I focus on my response, and that’s the receptive state I want to remain in for as long as possible.
