Painting flowers seems peaceful on the surface, but in actuality, it is usually a struggle from start to finish. I bought these large creamy-coloured roses for their height, but while I had them in the studio, I decided to try to paint their heads close together, like a group portrait. It was a small canvas that I kept returning to over several days.
