Diana Armfield

Painter, designer and teacher, born in Ringwood, Hampshire, married to the artist Bernard Dunstan. Her uncle Maxwell Armfield made a notable portrait of her, illustrated in Julian Halsby’s book The Art of Diana Armfield. She went to school at Bedales, then studied at Slade School of Fine Art and Central School of Arts and Crafts. For several years with Roy Passano ran the Armfield-Passano Partnership as designers. From 1959 she taught at Byam Shaw School of Art. Was included in many mixed shows, including Festival of Britain, and was a member of RWA, RWS, NEAC, RCamA and RA, 1991. After showing solo at Tegfryn Art Gallery, Anglesey, in 1975 and 1978, Armfield began a long association with Browse & Darby, also exhibiting in America and Australia.
